It’s mind control, right? Debunking the many myths about hypnosis.

As soon as hypnosis comes up in conversation you can almost guarantee that someone will ask something about mind control, clucking like a chicken or some other random question. I love these questions as hypnosis is of course one of my favourite topics of conversation and it’s fascinating to hear what someone may have heard about hypnosis previously.

There are many, many myths when it comes to hypnosis so read on to learn what hypnosis actually is - you may be surprised!

Will I blurt out all my secrets?

The answer to this one is no, unless you genuinely want to share something. You remain fully in control at all times during hypnosis and aware of everything that’s happening around you. If I made a suggestion that went against what you believed was right, your unconscious mind would reject it. You also remain in complete control of what you reveal to me so there’s nothing to fear.

Will you swing a watch?

Many moons ago this used to be a really popular method and worked on the basis that it prompts your focus to become narrowed on just one thing. The concept of your attention becoming narrowed is still used today and works wonders, but there’s no pocket watch involved in my sessions; we use language instead.

What if I fall asleep?

Trance can be achieved via relaxation as well and can feel so calming and relaxing that it may feel somewhat like sleep but it’s not. My role is to support you to get to just the right level of trance in order to achieve the changes you’d like to make. There’s no one size fits all with this either - your mind will take you to exactly the right level of trance you need to go to. For some this will be very deep, for others a very light trance will work amazingly well in helping you achieve the transformation you’re looking for.

Can you get stuck in trance?

No one has ever been stuck in a hypnotic trace. Trance is a natural state that we all easily go in and out of each day. If at any time you chose to come out of trance, all you would need to do is open your eyes. Most people report that they actually have a heightened sense of awareness during trance. Hypnosis is very safe and you remain aware throughout so you could react to something if you needed to.
