What is hypnosis?
Hypnotherapy is a safe way to help you make positive changes in your life.
It is thought that our mind works on two levels - the first level is our conscious mind where our rational thoughts reside - this is the area of the mind where we make all of our practical decisions. The second level is the unconscious mind which is where our memories, emotions, habits, beliefs and our imagination lives. The conscious mind uses the information stored in the unconscious mind to base it’s decisions on, however sometimes this information has been filed away incorrectly, taken out of context, misunderstood or simply needs to be updated.
Through hypnosis, you are able to access your unconscious mind and make positive changes to your habits, beliefs and emotions to get your whole mind on board with the changes you would like to make.
Hypnotherapy enables you to access a trance state which is completely safe and something that we go in and out of throughout each day. Have you ever found yourself arriving at home without consciously remembering the journey there? Have you ever been so absorbed in watching something that you didn’t realise someone was talking to you? This is trance and it’s completely natural. By accessing this trance state, I can guide you to make the positive changes you wish to make.
You remain in complete control of what you say and do throughout the session. I am there to guide you to make the positive changes we agree on at the start and to help you overcome any habits or thought processes that are standing in your way.
I take a very client centered approach - for some clients it is only necessary to deal with the here and now but for others we may need to revisit and reframe past experiences to enable you to move on in the ways you would like to. Sometimes it’s a combination of both of these approaches and I tailor each of my sessions to my client, recognising that each person is an individual.
As with anything in life, the success of your hypnotherapy sessions is dependent on your willingness and commitment to change. Hypnotherapy can support you to make these changes feel more natural but you need to be committed to making the change too. You can think of this as a partnership where we work together to achieve your goals.
What does hypnosis feel like?
People usually really enjoy the feeling of hypnosis and often describe it as a feeling of complete peace and relaxation. Some people find that their body feels lighter or heavier than normal during hypnosis. Your attention will be really focused whilst you are in trance, however you will still be in complete control and aware of your surroundings as normal. Your imagination will likely be really vivid, for instance if I asked you to imagine yourself standing in a beautiful country meadow, it may feel as though you are actually there. Hypnosis is different for everyone and many clients find it becomes easier each time. I will be there to guide you through the process and I tailor each of my sessions to my client as an individual.
